About me

Even while I was still studying, I gained extensive experience of life of a consultant, working in a number of international consulting practices in Germany and USA. However, those were basically trial and error experiences and after each posting I could see more clearly that consulting with one of the established firms was not going to be a viable option for me. That's why my next stop was the international product management at a FMCG company instead of consulting - back then my dream job. But then a concentrated stint at SMP resulted in my dream job idea being ditched and I went into consulting, only this time at SMP. That was the best career decision I've ever made.

What qualities do friends admire in you?
Directness and enthusiasm.

What challenges do you enjoy taking on?
The ones I can meet head-on in a team, whether at work or in sport.

What's your favourite thing to do after finishing a successful project?
Doing things with family and friends, lots of art, lots of culture, a bit of sport.

What dream do you still have to realise?
Short-term: Last Night of the Proms and Glastonbury.
Long-term: A private vineyard.

How do you recharge your batteries?
On Saturday morning, with a stack of newspapers, a large coffee and a view over the Rhine.
Or on the holy hill - at Schalke

What adventures lie ahead?
With two teenage sons, there are bound to be a few more ...

What was your biggest achievement at SMP?
The fact that I decided against a clear career path in the international group in favour of what was at the time still a small consulting firm, which we are now continuing to grow.

Which personal item would you least like to be separated from?
If anything, then technological gadgets (which unfortunately change all too often)

What's the motto you live your life by?
"It's better to act and to regret it than to regret not having acted."
Melin de Saint-Gelays
